COVID-19 is causing significant disruption across Canada. We are monitoring the situation closely, but events are changing rapidly day to day.
This morning, Ontario and Quebec announced a complete shutdown of non-essential business. We expect Alberta will shortly follow which will likely mean the closure of our physical office and reception.
As such, we highly recommend that any corporate or personal tax documents that you are unable to submit to us electronically be dropped off to HGA as soon as possible within the next day or two. Even if your records are incomplete, please bring in what you have.
At this time, there have been no extensions announced to corporate tax or GST return filing deadlines so penalties may be incurred if we do not have your records to prepare and file the necessary returns on time.
Even though the personal tax deadline has been extended, we recommend your personal return be filed as soon as possible to ensure that any COVID-19 and other related benefits that are dependent on your 2019 return are still processed in a timely manner. We are already encountering substantial processing delays within CRA.
Any personal or corporate records that can be submitted electronically to HGA is still strongly encouraged. These can be delivered via email to clientcare@hgacpa.com or directly to your HGA Partner or Manager’s email address. Alternately, you may use DropBox or any other secure file transfer service.
Thank you for your understanding as we continue to adapt to ensure your professional needs are met.
